Letting go of Injuries on “Father, Forgive Them” Retreat

Letting go of Injuries on “Father, Forgive Them” Retreat

A total of 13 men and boys joined the St Peter Chapter for the last Kepha retreat of the year.  The “Father, Forgive Them” retreat on November 19-20 did not just mark the end of a calendar year for Kepha, or even the end of the liturgical year with the feast of Christ the King.  This retreat also completed the Year of Mercy, during which Kephans have been meditating on the Spiritual Works of Mercy.  “Forgive injuries” was the last of these works to be covered over the course of three retreats in 2016.

The guest speaker at the retreat was Fr. James Oberle, PSS.  Fr. Oberle is an affiliate assistant professor of theology at the University of Dallas.  He joined the Kephans after 8am Mass at St Mark the Evangelist in Plano, TX, to speak on 12 steps to forgiveness.  We must consider what wrong was done us and what our involvement with it was.  Forgiveness is not a instantaneous event; to truly forgive another one must take time to truly understand what we are forgiving and to pray and ask God’s help.

Kephans talk Evangelization at Truth and Charity Retreat

Kephans talk Evangelization at Truth and Charity Retreat

Kepha’s last retreat was all about the spread of the Gospel.

A total of 20 men and boys attended the Truth and Charity Retreat at St Mark the Evangelist in Plano, TX.  Half of those had never been to a Kepha event.

Truth and Charity are two extremely important elements of evangelization.  If we do not spread the truth, we are uncharitable to those who have never heard God’s Word.  Who are we to hold back God’s mercy out of fear of discomfort for ourselves?

Kephans weed and paint benches at St Mark’s

Kephans weed and paint benches at St Mark’s

PLANO, TX – On the last work day before the first retreat in years, the Kephans of the St Peter Chapter tidied up the area around the St Mark Columbarium.

The guys spent about 45 minutes weeding the beds in front of the Columbarium.  The rest of the morning was spent sanding and painting two benches in front of Our Lady of Fatima (it was agreed that painting the benches purple would not be in good taste).

Next month Kepha will hold a retreat at St Mark in Plano.  Make sure to register here!

Chastity Retreat 2016 – Beach and Brotherhood

Chastity Retreat 2016 – Beach and Brotherhood

In the wee hours of Saturday morning, a shadowy group of men encircled a smaller circle of tiki torches. In the center of the light stood a flashlight, holding up a pix bearing the Eucharist.  The Brotherhood of the Iron Will was holding its Chastity Retreat.

The Chastity Retreat is the biggest Kepha retreat of the year.  In the days when the Don Bosco Chapter in New Orleans and the St Peter Chapter in Dallas were active, this was the one joint retreat of the year.  Typically, the retreat was held in Shreveport, Louisiana, which was roughly halfway between the two cities.
